Business Productivity Deskless Worker Suite from Microsoft Online Services
Economy-priced, read-only access to SharePoint Online and Exchange Online services

Many organizations with large workforces, part-time employees, interns, or volunteers tend to have many employees who do not have access to messaging and collaboration tools. With businesses seeking to cut costs through SaaS and cloud-hosted applications, Microsoft's Deskless Worker solution offers a new way for businesses to cut costs by providing limited access subscriptions for workers that might not need full write access to collaboration and communication applications such as SharePoint Online.

The suite includes Exchange Online Deskless Worker and SharePoint Online Deskless Worker. Each standalone offer is priced at $2 per user per month; the deskless suite is priced at $3 per user per month at a 25% discount.

Deskless WorkerWhat are Deskless Workers and what makes read-only Exchange and SharePoint useful to business?

The Deskless Worker Suite is not literally for workers without a desk, but workers that currently do not have access to company e-mail and shared documents that also would not need full access. Microsoft Online Services provides read-only access in the form of Deskless Workers subscriptions for Exchange Online and SharePoint Online separately or as a package suite.

Businesses that have workers who need a company e-mail address and access to view SharePoint information, but not edit or contribute to shared portals can take advantage of these limited version communication and collaboration tools while cutting the monthly subscription cost to access.

How to determine if Deskless Worker subscriptions are a right fit for your organization

Exchange Online Workers do not require significant e-mail or messaging capabilities; just access to view a limited about of inbox e-mails and send responses accordingly. Deskless Worker e-mail inboxes are smaller in size and do not use Outlook, mobile, or premium access. Exchange Online Deskless workers are still able to use the calendar, contacts, and other light features of Exchange through the Office Outlook Web Access Light portal.

SharePoint Online Deskless Workers do not require the ability to edit online documents, contribute to wikis, create tasks, nor upload information; they simply need the ability to view announcements, team information, and company documents. Not all organizations have an entire workforce that uses organization e-mail and collaboration portals, but should those employees need to simply view the information, the access is available to them through a subscription seat as a SharePoint Online Deskless Worker.
